The trailer of Dead Island alone was so awesome that people actually made sand castles of hope and wet zombie dreams that here comes a game that could finally deliver them straight to heaven and away from the rapture, somehow.
But when it came out, it was….glitchy as hell’s third level of insanity and madness.
So anyways the story is like this: you got these four survivors in a far away all out party on an isolated small island, because Far Cry series wasn’t released yet maybe.
Then, ribble-rabble-fooble-fable, you know the gist, ugh we don’t even want to talk about this escape from the infected island of flesh eating zombie like creatures cliché anymore.
The gameplay is based upon open world, survival horror, FPS action, RPG elements imbued game mechanic.
Meaning, you play in first person mode, running around surviving and completing tasks, earning XPs and using those XPs to build up your skills and stamina/attack capacity.
Combat is based upon using mostly melee weapons, which get damaged over time so you have to repair them or upgrade them, you won’t get firearms until the first quarter of the game is finished so it is clearly stealth and strategy based action game.
Turn blades into electrified blades and put nails on baseballs or just soak your chainsaw in rattlesnake poison, that is the weapon upgrading and manipulation of the game.
Then there is a stamina system, where your player gets tired or fatigued over long courses of actions because we had to be reminded of our natural boring ass weaknesses even in a game world to emphasis on the tension. So anyways, then of course there are zombies, many types of them they slither, they shamble, they crawl, they walk, they run and also they moonwalk.
The moonwalking zombies or the big boss like zombies consume too much of stamina of yours which can lead you to reach the arms of the god, quickly.
So strategy, strategy and strategy some more!
All great to hear right? These things sound interesting and fun to do!
It is FUN to play this game, mind you, no doubt about that!
But the goddamn glitches, uggh, they just slap you back into lame ass reality just when you are trying to indulge into the exciting world of Dead Island, frequently.
And that kind of slips it way back at the point bar.
Developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver for PS3, X360, Linux, OS X, PC, PS4 and XOne. It was released in September 2011.
The great amount of gore, open world movements, weapon creation and manipulation, action and gameplay system that lured us in are still there, but only are rigged with glitches and irritating stuffs like technical difficulties.
They have released patches for the PC versions and a remastered game is about to be released hopefully it would be as good as we thought it would be.
