Half Life is one of those definitive games of the gaming universe where they distinguish era before and after that game’s arrival, very few games hold that milestone like records and Half Life is one of those legendary titles.
You are Gordon Freeman, a theoretical pysis- phyc- physicist, yes that, in Black Mesa Research Facility, a hidden facility that is up to something strange. Suddenly an inter-dimensional teleportation mishap devastates everyone and everything there!
Great numbers of horrific monster like creatures and hostile parasites get released into the huge facility, killing and mutilating almost everyone, Gordon survives and as he tries to look for a way out another trouble emerges, the government trying to hide its fault sends its squads there to finish and burn everything off.
And also there is this haunting presence of a mysterious figure dubbed as G-Man, who seems to just watch over him.
What is happening? Find out later in the game!
The gameplay is what sets this title into very special places of our hearts, it is by purest definition, immersive. You see everything through the eyes of Gordon, who rarely talks. You never lose control over him as there are no cutscenes in this one, just an ongoing series of action with story explained in continuous progress of the game.
Played in the first person view, the game influenced the modern FPS games after its own battle and game presentation systems, the game asks you to be careful, be on your wits and always be prepared for anything.
The main attraction of this whole thing are the enemies, many of the enemies in this title are just out right scary and dangerous and they induce fear and high levels of tension even in the players. Enemies like Headcrabs Bull Squids, Vortigaunts and many other monstrosities.
This title somehow does not feel like your average alien shooter but more like some kind of real invasion simulator.
Its just great!
Developed by Valve LLC and published by Sierra Studios and Valve Corporation for PC, PS2, OS X and Linux, it was released in November 1998. Then in November 2001 and in January 2013.
The appeal is in the constant horrific dangers that lies everywhere and just lunges at you without any hint. The strategy to kill each enemy, to get past through enemy infected sections using unique strategies but specially the constant struggle between the tiny hope and the monstrous evil is what keeps everyone on the edges of their seats.
