Miasmata is independent survival adventure game, wherein you are a person named Robert Hughes who is infested with, no not with some zombie virus or something, but with a serious disease that could kill him if he does not find a cure soon!
Yes there is no medical help available for this mysterious disease, because A- it is still being searched upon and B- it searched upon an isolated small island and the searcher is killed by someone.
So you are trapped in a remote godforsaken island, infected with a disease that is rapidly spreading and could kill you in a mere matter of hours, plus there might be killer somewhere watching you, plus you are loosing your control because you have fever, and there are also wild predators being the generic asshole as they always do!
Now that is what we call a true horror, just like sometimes life throws at you, although not at this shitty level.
So what are you going to do?
The game demands you to track down the island in search of some special plants, herbs and fungi that holds the cure for the plague that is inside you, you get clues from the dead researcher’s notes, you make small pills that hold off your fever to short to medium periods.
Plus you also make some advanced medications using the same notes from the researcher that give you a peak strength level and stamina for a short amount of time which you can use to scour far or defend yourself in life threatening situation that are less in number but are placed is such a way that they still make you nervous.
Also you get dehydrated really, really fast due to the disease and thus you gotta carry a water canteen which is laughably small considering your situation here, so there’s that.
The game plays in first person mode, the graphics are decent and the atmosphere is haunting in its silent and regular looking sort of way.
There’s a definite fear of death looming up upon you, one way or another and yeah, we won’t ruin this masterpiece of some really great survival challenge game.
Oh look, a great masterpiece devised by independent game developers, how peculiar!
The game, Miasmata is developed by Joe and Bob Johnson, brothers of course, over the course of four years under the production name of IonFX, it is available for PC and it was released in November 2012.
If you were always looking for a true, real life like survival horror game experience then look no more, although there could be many things to be done with it but still it gives us hope in true horror survival games of such nature in future, advanced and satisfyingly fresh.
