The Game!
Oh Boy!
*deep breathing for preparation*
Well, here goes nothing….
The game where it all began from, Resident Evil (called Biohazard in Japan) is the uncrowned usherer of the survival horror genre.
Back in 1996, on PS, it created something that soon took over the world like a global pandemic of mayhem and macabre and ever since has developed into a full grown organization of horror and survival trope in the games.
Essentially a reboot of Capcom’s own ‘Sweet Home’, the idea then translated into the Resident Evil series we worship today by Shinji Mikami, the main priest and creator.
Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, two members of the S.T.A.R.S. elite team go in the outskirts of the Raccoon City where their previous team members had gone missing.
As they arrive they are attacked by mysteriously dangerous creatures and soon find themselves trapped inside a huge mansion.
Its in here they part and try to make the sense of the horror that is taking over the place.
Welcome to the World of Survival Horror.
The Gameplay!
The game’s graphics and motion are based upon pre rendered animated backgrounds and polygonal active characters.
The gameplay is based upon survival, and survival alone, that’s it.
No action, no trigger happy shootings, no over the top ammo release, no nothing.
Just try as best to save your butt from those undead bodies who slowly but surely are reaching towards you and at times those undead hounds and creatures that can kill you in an instant, brutally and humiliatingly.
Conserve ammo, make some back up planes of escape or sweep past right the hoards of undead, don’t engage them if they are unknown of your presence and most of all don’t think that they can’t get you because they move so slow.
Because they can and they will, bruh!
The gameplay is based on survival tactics and exploration and puzzle elements that not only exposition the history, but also move the game forward and create challenges for you as a gamer.
The Company!
Developed and published by Capcom for PS, PC, Sega Saturn and Nintendo DS. It was released in March 1996.
The Appeal!
It’s a goddamn Resident Evil game man, what else do you want to hear about it.
It started it all and even after so much time has passed it sure scares the shit out of anyone or at least makes them nervous, real high.
If you could find the title then do give it a try or if not then better try the ‘Resident Evil Remake’ on your PS and Xbox online shops, which will at least let you have some experience of the original story.
‘Resident Evil’ is one of the most classic games of them all.
The game!
Resident Evil series is to us what sex is to other people and Resident Evil 2 is that hot piece of strange beauty that teases us, scares us, alludes us, ambushes us, attacks us, kills us and then eats us. And we still come back for more and more.
Resident Evil 2 (or Biohazard 2 in Japan) is one of those rare gifts that life has in its hard to reach shelves that make you have some hope even when all is lost.
As you know Resident Evil is based on the survival horror genre.
It contains steady game elements like zombies that actually make some sense and scares, six or less guns - two of which don’t put dent on anything, small amount of ammunition, small amount of hope, large amount of locked doors and total spook.
Resident Evil 2 takes place two months after the incident in the first Resident Evil, in Raccoon City where the outbreak of the T virus has turned almost everyone into flesh eating zombies.
Rookie cop, Leon Scott Kennedy, one of the main protagonists of the series and Claire Redfield, sister to Chris Redfield, and a female badass, have arrived in this city for their own reasons. Unknown to the fact that an epidemic has just taken place here!
And they find it out the hard way, they take shelter in a nearby Police Headquarter and split up to find a safe way out of this madness.
But obviously that is not gonna be easy! Did I say easy? I meant possible!
The gameplay!
The gameplay is so phenomenal, it is so classic and nostalgic that for us, it is a sin to describe that feeling in words, but for you dear readers and their accompanying dogs/cats we will commit this sin.
Oh CAPCOM, My CAPCOM, please forgive us!
The game is a third person, true survival horror game that uses exploration, puzzles and survival tactics (not action madness) to make out of it alive. It is as always: provided with little ammo and medicinal herbs and thus it makes you to be cautious and on your toes and reserve ammo as much as you can
A basic part of survival, it is not an action game.
And boy it does scare us, it does have that spooky and chilling sensation, when you are all alone, trying to wander in an all out facility in search for safety while there are groaning voices of several zombies that can be heard from distance.
The game comes in two CDs, one for the part of Leon and other one for Claire, both have their own paths to get out of that horrid place.
Double the fun, and there are numerous small things, that one by one as you progress, make up for a very good horror game experience, like the mutated crows bursting through the windows as a spine chilling music breaks in.
Its just a legendary classic milestone, that’s all we can say here.
The company!
Created by Shinji Mikami, our Japanese God of survival horror, developed and published by CAPCOM for PlayStation, Game.com, PC, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast and GameCube. It was released in January 1998.
The Appeal!
Horror that slowly approaches you, and makes you think that you can easily outrun it and so you make the mistake of mocking it and then all of a sudden it lunges at you from 12 different directions and pretty soon, after your screams are gone, only munching and chomping noises remain.
If that makes any hair on any part of your body stand up, we bloody beg you to try this!
The game!
Resident Evil - Code: Veronica is one of the most awesome of the Resident Evil games in the series, it also has an updated version where they have included new cutscenes and mild graphical contents, yeah right, mild, sure!
The game is basically the holy pillar of the franchise, it is so amazing that just like Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 4, it still has more replay value than the biggest of the games combined from this era.
Seriously you get lost in to this thing and after two months its all over again upon your mind you’re your horniest of fantasies.
The game is settled around the premise of Claire looking for her brother in an Umbrella corporation facility in Paris where she gets captured is taken to a remote island prison based Rockford Islands in southern hemisphere!
And then T virus breaks out and turns everyone into zombies, she is rescued by another prison mate and then begins the true search for mystery of the prison, her abduction, the past of Umbrella Corporation and of course Chris’ whereabouts.
The game is divided into two parts, one half is played by Claire and the other one is played by an arriving Chris.
The game is one of the seriously tough games to beat and thus it demands your quick reflexes and fast thinking at times.
The gameplay!
The game Resident Evil - Code: Veronica or Code Veronica X is made from #d graphical environments and yet the game includes the preset camera angles, just like previous RE titles.
The game also has the 180 degree turning system and explosive oil barrels returning along with upgradable hand gun parts and side carry packs.
The game has excluded the dodge systems from the Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.
Anti B.O.W. rounds, grenade launcher, crossbows and dual wielding sub machine guns are also in the game but nothing is quite satisfying as the old trusty knife!
The player plays the absurd horror and survival need of the game through Claire, Chris and occasionally with Steve Burnside.
Also the game has many unlockables and secret weapons and getting them is bitch, pure bitch man!
But all in all the game is so awesome and enjoyable in its progression, thems and thematic that you’ll be hooked with all the puzzle solving and zombie evading.
Without thinking clear and fats you are not going to make it, plain and simple people!
The company!
Developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and Nextech and published by Capcom, Eidos Interactive and Nintendo Australia for Dreamcast, PS2 (X), Gamecube (X), X360 ( X HD) and PS3 (X HD). It was released in February 2000.
The Appeal!
If you ever wanted to experience a truly indulging game or better a situation where you are in so much shit and you have to escape anyhow, like your old trapped in Nazi Germany, WW II escape movies, then look no forward for Resident Evil Code Veronica is a true piece of your own private escape action movie.
Only with Zombies!
Our work here is done.
And now its up to you…
The game!
Resident Evil 4!
The best there is, the best there was and totally the best there ever will be!
If you are hoping to be an awesome gamer or if you think you already are, then my friend just like the legendary Mario is a passage rite for the children into gaming world, Resident Evil 4 is the passage rite for the gamers into next level, the real mature gaming world.
What a game and what an experience!
We wish we could build a memory deleter so that we could warp inside the stirring world of Resident Evil 4.
We are halfway there, the deleting does happen, but it kinda takes away the half of the head along with it, apart from the memories.
So….well, half assed dream projects aside, Resident Evil 4 was a clear path changer for the gaming world and also for the series’ usual taking on horror, as it was more action oriented than the more surviving oriented ones but it was handled well.
So the setting of RE4 sees the returning protagonist, our man, Leon Scott Kennedy, in a remote European location where it is tracked that the abducted daughter of the US president is.
So as Leon arrives at the abandoned village, it turns out it was not abandoned after all and after that a series of most awesome and fast action demanding events take place that literally take your breath away man!
The Gameplay!
The gameplay of Resident Evil 4 is iconic and an usherer to a new gameplay setting.
The game is played in third person mode with the camera view set right behind the player character, so that alone takes the first hand experience of the game world to new and great heights plus keeping the stable viewing of a third person mode.
The game is so fast paced, so much demanding and so challenging that it will either make you or break you as an aspiring hardcore gamer.
And that’s the sweetest point of it, the pace of this game that makes it have one of the greatest replay value in all of the gaming world.
The game is action adventure horror with RPG elements inside it as well as you get to buy and upgrade many cool sounding and performing weapons, tons of unlockables, a great in game mini game, and so much buzz in the atmosphere that you might have to take some time out, just to soak it in well.
The true terror or the real danger does not happen in this title because of big things, it happens in the small ones, when you know that if you get sloppy or make one tiny mistake or didn’t play wisely, hundreds kind of different fatal shits would waste no time into reminding that to your sorry butt.
Doctor Salvador (the chain saw guy), the Ganados (infested brainwashed zombies), Chief Mendes, Jack Krauser, The midget prince and the main boss Osmond Saddler, they all are something that make this game truly one of a kind.
Also there is Ada Wong returning in it too.
The Company!
Developed by Capcom production and published by Capcom for GameCube, PS2, PC, Wii, Zeebo, iOS, PS3, X360, Android, PS4, and XOne. It was initially released in January 2005.
The Appeal!
There are some things in life that you even though try to understand and explain that to your loved ones, like answering your children where kids come from or what is life or why are we here and how sexy is the universe exactly!
We can never tell, and such is also true about Resident Evil 4, we can’t tell how AWESOME it is, ever, we just can’t sorry you guys, we failed you, we failed you!
Excuse us!
Resident Evil 4 available on iTunes
The game!
Resident Evil 5 the game that took all of us by our gonads and spun so fast that we had to give in to its awesome ‘actionous and adventurous but where is the horrors man?’ biceps of death!
What Resident Evil 4 gave us as maybe the new form of horror game, turned out to be a lull when the Resident Evil 5 gripped us in Rear Naked Choke.
Now, let me be clear here, resident Evil 5 is an awesome game, a very good game with excellent replay value but…but it is NOT a survival horror game, it is not Resident Evil game, at least not the one we have been playing till date!
This paradigm shift is not bad, you can change whatever you want, its art, art is free and should be changed but then there are some already good things to begin with, that never break and what is not broken should not be fixed!
Resident Evil 5 is pure Action, pure Run and Gun and so good at it that it can make Gears of War series a run for its money!
As you can quite possible see from the above sentence that there is no horror word mentioned there, because there is not any, it is just some big guns action faction soap opera for jocks or something!
Resident Evil 5 is set 5 years after the events of Resident Evil 4, Chris is the main protagonist here who is now a part of an anti biological weaponry something-something, so he has a mission here and joining him is super hot and super badass Sheva Alomar!
They are in Kijuju, Africa trying to stop a bio weapon mcguffin being sold to some another evil asshole and brim brom brim, chase after them before they destroy the earth!
Oh and there is Jill also and she seems…not well, health wise, personally speaking!
The gameplay!
The gameplay is awesome, once you give in to the fact that you are not gonna have a survival horror experience but a survival action one, kinda like Rambo but with huger guns and huger biceps!
Resident Evil 5 is a third person shooter pure action game and though they all add survival horror’ in there too, I won’t!
So you got all the big guns that are regulatory, all the herbs that you have seen, some grenades and loads of Majinis (the zombies in this one) and you have to run from this point to that for various reasons and the action is awesome, I give it that!
But, ah well, let’s just skip the complaints!
So the game is very HD and the movements are smooooth, like butter and the AI is not bad, both for the allies and the enemies.
You have some tweaked up changes in here though, you can load up only so much this time, you have nine slots to add the weapons and the herbs and the grenades and the armors and everything else, just nine slots!
The good thing, the item size is irrelevant and you can attach whatever you want to equip fast on the D pad, plus you have another tweak, instead of the mysterious Rosa Merchant in the previous RE4 this time you upgrade weapons everytime you clear a chapter, a mission or every time you load/reload a game, magically, apparently!
The game is a pleasure to play along with someone especially with girlfriends and it supports all the ease for a two player split screen game.
All in all a fast paced, heavy action oriented game that does deliver the testosterone but fails at Amygdala one!
The company!
Developed and published by Capcom for the X360, PS3, PS4, XOne and PC, it was released in March 2009.
The appeal!
You will go at it because of the Resident Evil title but you will find something else, equally mesmerizing but not the one that you were looking for!
So if you are some serious action fan in a game, try this ASAP!
The game!
Resident Evil: Revelations or commonly known among gamers as Resident Evil Jill’s Butt, is the new age closed environment survival action horror game that when it starts to grow on you, which it will, you will absolutely love it.
RER is truly a new kind of Resident Evil experience that holds so much, so-so much potential into its approach that we hope that they use this same kind of gameplay mechanism in almost every Resident Evil game.
There are of course some minor anti points but what hasn’t?
The game is set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, and the story begins as Jill and her partner Parker aboard an abandoned ship in the middle of nowhere (of sea, nowhere of sea) as they had a reading that their other team members Chris and Jessica were recorded here.
And well that is where the shit hits the fan, most of the game happens on this ship with some other locations as well but in flashbacks so they are not long parts of the game and personally we liked it.
The wandering around, in that abandoned ship, with fatal creatures and monsters, all alone and looking for clues and solving puzzles, that is the Resident Evil!
And we got to play it in this beautiful, beautiful game.
The gameplay!
Oh boy, the game is played in third person, behind the character camera position, the combat is mainly done with firearms with occasional stun attacks and also timed dodging.
The gameplay is your original Resident Evil experience only more smooth and fast and extra. The progress of the game is based on exploration, search and find, combat and RPG development elements.
Also there is this mechanical device always with you, called The Genesis, it quite basically is a scanner, its cans down the enemy, acquiring its vital stats and data, filling some percentage of its inner record file, when you get that percentage to 100% you receive a green herb, you can have only a limited amount of herbs and ammos in your active repertoire.
The genesis also scans everything! It scans the room and locates any hidden goody that was invisible to your puny human eyes.
So add these gameplay mechanics and imagine how good it must feel to actually be in a horror game where there is so much to look around and find out and get scared.
The company!
Developed by Capcom and published by Capcom for Japan and North America and Nintendo for Europe, for Nintendo 3DS, PC, PS3, Wii U and X360. It was initially released in January 2012.
The appeal!
The tight battle suit that Jill wears in it, oh man, it just makes everything feel alright with whatever the hell we went through to be able to see this.
Just…just…just leave us alone for a while now ok?
The Game!
Oh Jesus Bloody Christ, tell me, please tell me that this is not real!
That Resident Evil 6 is just a nightmare I am having and it is still to come out in actual reality!
Maybe I am in some augmented reality or something to test my true love for the series and maybe in a few years I’ll pass and wake up to find that the real Resident Evil 6 is not the one that I am gonna describe here!
But alas, no, that is not the truth, I helplessly know, sigh!
Resident Evil 6 or more commonly known as “I’ll need two guns for this one!” among series fan and “the hell I just bought?” among gamers, is the ninth main installment (oh the cruelty of desires!) in the beloved but now seems to be losing track of its own shit franchise.
The game started out as a game about flesh eating zombies, you, 3 to 5 guns, 20 to 50 bullets, horror of being attacked and eaten from anywhere and the need to survive the shit out of it.
Then it turned into a game about the goddamn politics and presidents and militaries and whatnot, goddamit government you are the first reason we turned to the games in the first place anyway!
So the story or stories are like this- there are four inter woven stories that each have their own main characters team that has something to do with a newfound C virus attacking the big cities the world over and yeah that is about it!
The gameplay!
As I said there are four story arcs, first is of Leon Scott Kennedy and Helena Harper scenario probably the best scenarios (gameplay wise) and it is because of Leon and specially Helena that I even bothered to try this thing through!
Then there are the campaigns of Chris and Piers, Sherry (the small girl from Resident Evil 2) and Jake (the smug offspring from Albert Wesker) and of course Ada, who somehow fails to charm us and me as well!
What have we done!
Anyways, if you are looking for some gameplay descriptions here then all that could be summoned up in two words, first is QTEs the people over at Capcom thought that perhaps QTEs are the next best thing so the whole game is just bombarded with million types of QTEs, which is just plain annoying!
And the second word is- broken, there is a new kind of weapon distribution mechanics that is kinda like RE 5’s sort but only slightly better in containing part but still a more headache in retrieving part.
The battle interaction system is broken, plain and simple, the moves don’t connect when you want them to (you can strike those fists of yours without any stun this time! You know what else, you can even play the whole goddamn wrestling finishers on zombies too if that is what you like, because that is how horror works!) yes, there is a separate button to unleash that army hand to hand combat training against the undeads which depletes your overall walking/running energy too!
More than the big things, it is the small things that really break me down to tears, the new herb mixing system is good, I give it that, but with so much shit happening around that makes no goddamn difference.
And then the gameplay, well here is the thing, there is a Tyrannosaurus Rex serving as a mission boss (because this is Contra) and that 20 ton dinosaur attacks at you doing cartwheels and back flips!
Like some really morbidly mutated version of Rey Mysterio!
I will stop it all here because then it will just go on and on and on…
The company!
Ladies and gentlefarts, Resident Evil 6 is developed and published by Capcom (well, I guess we all have our ‘those’ moments!) for PS3, X360, PCV, PS4 and XOne.
The appeal!
I have no idea the only thing that appealed to me was the title Resident Evil but that hurted me and apart from that the appeal was Leon and her, Helena Harper, my new crush!
Apart from these, the only other use for RE 6 is in what not to do when making a game report or something!
